“Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
2 Corinthians 5:17
Sometimes God speaks to my heart through the most unusual, perhaps even mundane activities of my day-to-day life. I love that He meets me where I’m at to reveal a spiritual truth where I least expect it.
A few days ago, I decided to finally redo the front room in my home. It is one long room that functions as a formal living and dining room space. My dining table sat in one half of the room, while an upright piano occupied the other half. The dining table felt a little crammed in its designated place, and the piano looked odd by itself in one half of the room. I repositioned the dining table to the middle of the room going longways, with the piano placed at the end of the room.
Moving the furniture around made the dining area feel more spacious and comfortable, and the piano became a focal point at the end of the room. But the paint color on the walls blended with the furniture, the chandelier had to be repositioned to hang on top of the table’s new spot, and without any other decor, the room looked kind of blah.
After browsing for ideas on Pinterest, I began to gain a little bit of vision, but it wasn’t until I asked my interior-designer friend for help that I got a vivid image of the room’s full potential. I felt like she turned my mind into an HGTV computer-generated preview, with every single change appearing on the “screen” as I read the text with her suggestions: “I would paint the room white, put curtains on both windows, choose a nice area rug to go under the table, get a large mirror or piece of art to go above the buffet table, place a runner on the table to break up all the wood, put a plant…”
When I was done reading her ideas, my dining-room space looked entirely different in my mind than it did in real life. That’s when the gentle voice of God whispered into my spirit: I see you, your life, your marriage, and your kids the way you see this room in your mind.
I was stunned. It was a simple but profound reminder that there’s more to me, my family, and my purpose than what meets the eye. And guess what? The same is true for you. God is our ever-faithful, soul-designer friend, who is eagerly waiting for us to ask Him to give us His vision for our lives and relationships.
You may look at your life and only see the challenges, disappointments, or the things you wish were different. Maybe your past has left you feeling unworthy, or your present circumstances make you question if you’ll ever become who God created you to be. But God doesn’t see you as you are—He sees you as He designed you to be. He sees the potential, the beauty, the strength, and the purpose that He placed inside of you. He is not limited by your past, nor does your present define your future. God is doing a work in you, shaping you into the woman He has called you to be. Trust His vision, and allow Him to guide you toward His perfect plan.
I already painted the room white, but that’s the only change I’ve made so far from the suggestions my friend made. However, anytime I walk by that room, I no longer see it for what it is—I see it for what it will become, and it makes me smile every time.
Lord, I pray that you will give us Your vision for our lives, and for everyone else around us. Enable us to see everyone the way you created them. Open our eyes to see the potential You see in us and those around us, and give us the desire to do whatever we need to do to fulfill Your vision. In Jesus’ name, amen.
FLAG THIS!
- God sees beyond our present circumstances. Just as an unfisnished room has hidden potential, so do our lives.
- Your past doesn’t define you. No matter where you’ve been, God is shaping you into the woman He created you to be.
- God is doing a work in you. Trust that He has a greater plan for your life, relationships, and future.
- Transformation takes time. Just like a room makeover, spiritual growth and preparation require patience and faith.
HEART CHECK: Reflect and Grow
- Do you trust that God has a greater vision for your life than what you can currently see?
- Are there past mistakes or present struggles that make you doubt God’s plan for you? How can you surrender them to Him?
- Are you actively allowing God to shape and prepare you for the future He has for you?
- How does knowing that God sees you, values you, and has a purpose for you change the way you approach your relationships and personal growth?
