I Believe, Help Me Overcome My Unbelief!

I Believe, Help Me Overcome My Unbelief!

Lately, I’ve found myself wrestling with questions I don’t have answers for. I can’t wrap them in a box with a bow neatly tied around it, as I do with miraculously answered prayers that fit in my faith box nicely.

The ramifications of the global crisis we are facing can’t be easily predicted or explained, let alone understood. So many questions, so many unknowns, so many different opinions.

The enemy would like nothing more than to use the heaviness and uncertainty of this time to make us question God’s goodness, faithfulness, and even His existence. I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford to let my guard down and allow the current circumstances distort what I know to be true about God. In times like these, I need my relationship with Him to be stronger than ever.

My faith in God is my anchor in times of trouble, it’s the one thing that carries me through the difficulties of this life. Not because He answers all my questions or fixes all my problems, but because I have experienced the peaceful and loving comfort of His presence. During times I should have fallen apart, He held me together.

I have an arsenal of scriptures I turn to when my soul becomes discouraged by this broken world. When the enemy taunts me with, did God really say…?, and my mind begins to doubt, I pray this simple and honest plea found in Mark 9:24: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

It was the sincere request of a father desperately seeking freedom for his son from an impure spirit, and it has become my go-to prayer when I feel my soul drifting from the faith I hold so dearly.

Things don’t always make sense to me, especially when human suffering is involved. But I choose to go through life embracing the faith that teaches me that this is just a temporary home. And that while I’m here, I serve a powerful God who is able to rescue me from trouble, or to fill me with His peace and strength to face whatever difficulties come my way.

Heavenly Father, I pray You protect our hearts and minds from doubting Your goodness and love during this difficult time. Remove any seeds of unbelief in our hearts, and replace them with seeds of faith. May we live each day, and go to bed each night, believing that You will bring beauty from ashes. Open our eyes to see Your mighty hand at work in our own homes and around the world. Quiet our hearts to hear Your voice, and give us the will to follow Your lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Your Turn!

  • Make a list of scriptures that give you comfort during difficult times so you can have it ready when you need it, or print this list.
  • Make it a priority to spend time with God, only He can give you the peace and comfort you need.
  • Take time to remember God’s faithfulness in your life. He is still the same.
